The sons of Carl-Friedrich Louise Bucherer joined the family business at the beginning of the 1920s. Ernst and Carl Eduard Bucherer led the business to even greater success. In 1924, Ernst Bucherer entered into a particularly fruitful partnership with Hans Wilsdorf the founder of Rolex, adding the watch brand – which at the time was barely established – to the Bucherer range.
EXPANSION OF LUXURY
The Bucherer success story continued in the same vein despite the crises of the 1930s and the Second World War. The family business opened branches in further Swiss towns and luxury tourist destinations. In 1977, the third generation of the founding family took over the reins: under Jörg G. Bucherer, the company expanded into Austria in the 1980s, and then into Germany some 10 years later.
In 2013, Bucherer celebrated its 125th anniversary and opened the world’s largest watch and jewellery store in Paris. Three years later Bucherer expanded into Denmark, opening a boutique in the centre of Copenhagen. Since we acquired Klarlund, the Danish watch and jewellery dealer in 2022, Bucherer now has three boutiques in Denmark. The acquisition of The Watch Gallery in 2017, added four more boutiques in London to the company portfolio. On acquiring Tourneau, the American watch dealer, in January 2018, Bucherer established itself as the world’s largest watch and jewellery retailer.
In August 2023, Jörg G. Bucherer sold Bucherer to the company’s long-standing and most important partner – the Swiss watch manufacturer Rolex – thereby securing the future of the company.

As the leading retailer of watches and jewellery worldwide, Bucherer offers our international clientèle what is probably the most extensive range of timepieces from renowned luxury brands. Creations from established jewellery brands also feature in our range, but the focus is on jewellery collections designed by our in-house ateliers and custom-made pieces from Bucherer Fine Jewellery.
